A huge market is forecast for MLA drive in CSTN displays for
mobile phones.
Monochrome mobile phone displays are
being rapidly replaced by color LCDs. This has already
occurred in Japan and other parts of the Far East and is well
underway in Europe; the conversion has just started in the
USA. By 2006 only the lowest-end mobile phones will be
monochrome.
Both the passive, CSTN market share
and absolute numbers for mobile phones are forecast to grow to
61% and 415 million units by 2006 at the expense of TFT and
TFD displays. 40% of the CSTN displays in 2006 are forecast to
use MLA
drive.
